Established since the 1980’s in Virton (south of Belgium), the Groupe François (Recybois-Paletterie François-Wood Log) was initially specialized in wooden pallets, boxes and made-to-measure packages production.
As planks production unit, Recybois is a sawmill supplied by local woods. Produced planks are transferred by bundles to the pallets manufacturing unit, Paletterie François. Wood Log is the logistics entity of the group.
With a very important stock of diverse high-turnover pallets, this booming company can ensure just-in-time deliveries for its customers. The whole of the company’s workshops allows a production capacity of more than 10.000 pallets a day.
Paletterie François is certified ISO9001, ISMP15 and EPAL.
Since 2006, a step forward is covered with the start of a combustible pellets production unit (Badger Pellets) by using sawdusts from Recybois. Exclusively made of coniferous trees from south Belgium’s woods, this 100% natural combustible answers to the highest standards for private stoves and boilers.
Problematics and solutions
From 2008, expansion of the company and sectorization of its numerous activities in 3 different units convinced the management for the necessity of a complete system to trace goods and flows; the final goal of this operation was to ensure a perfect visibility on the cost prices of produced pallets.
After the first steps of ERP acquisition (Dynamics AX) and network infrastructure installation for the binding of all the sites of the group, it’s to UP trace that the next crucial steps were confided:
- barcode labels and SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) stock management
- production’s data capture and printing solution at the sawmill and the palettery, making it possible to exchange data with the AX ERP.
In practice
From now on, each plank bundle produced at Recybois is identified with a SSCC label involving all its specific informations, which are brought on along the whole production scheme. At that point already, flows security is managed by UP trace’s middleware by generating a file imported once a day or in real time to the AX ERP, correlated to a Customer order at Recybois and a Supplier order at Paletterie François .
This intends to :
- avoid multiple counts of a single bundle
- ensure all the bundles are scanned
- ensure that the produced items are registered in all the various entities of the group.
As soon as they get out of the sawmill, planks bundles are identified by a label bearing a SSCC code containing the totality of data available for that bundle (i.e. dimensions, quantities, wording…), which are scanned and stocked in the ERP. At every handling, a mere scan of these labels by carists allows UP trace ‘s middleware to modify the goods status in the ERP, generating back a new SSCC, quantity, depot, user, date, hour… and recording it.
All along the pallets production line is UP trace’s middleware clearly ensuring, in real time and double sense, a link between the ground activity and the data existing in the ERP. It determines with precision the exact amount of planks used for a precise production, involving registered production errors, employees clocking data and other manufacturing costs.
Data use is optimal, outputs are under control.
